Life Is Suffering

3 Jul

This poem is a series of 11 haiku poems that are strung together in a series to tell a story. I call this style that I created a haiku chain poem. According to Dictionary.com, a haiku is a major form of Japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons; or a poem written in this form.

This poem introduces the reader to some of the basic concepts of Buddhism.

When you want something
that desire may lead to
a crime of passion.

It is best to not
attach oneself to worldly
treasures or people.

When you are detached
you don’t love, hate, lust or feel
any regrets. None.

Life leads to some sort
of uneasiness one way
or another. Fact.

Live a simple life.
Don’t wear perfumes, jewelry
or even wearing make-up.

Be mindful of the
concept of karma as it
affects future lives.

To minimize the
suffering, be careful of
your actions today.

Your rebirth may be
that of a lower being.
Tied to your karma.

It is best to end
the cycle of rebirth to
achieve Nirvana.

Suffering ends when
craving ends. Eliminate
all the delusions.

Don’t invest a lot
in this world. It is painful.
Life is suffering.
