He Died For Our Sins

5 Jun

This poem is a series of 17 haiku poems that are strung together in a series to tell a story. I call this style that I created a haiku chain poem. According to Dictionary.com, a haiku is a major form of Japanese verse, written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables, and employing highly evocative allusions and comparisons, often on the subject of nature or one of the seasons; or a poem written in this form.

This poem is about the central figure in Christianity, Jesus Christ.

Born of a virgin.
Foretold of by the prophets.
Seed of Abraham.

Seeds of Abraham
through his son Jacob, later
known as Israel.

Jacob’s name became
Israel after he fought
the angel of GOD.

Our saviour was
called Jesus. He was GOD in
the flesh. Son of GOD.

GOD so loved the world,
that he gave his only son.
So that we might live.

He would die for us
in our place so that we might
live as immortals.

Being with our great
GOD, the heavenly father,
for eternity.

Herod hunted him.
He knew that a child
would be born to them.

He would be for all.
Not just the house of Jacob.
All nations on Earth.

He was known as a
carpenter’s son, but he’s
our great redeemer.

He made the lame walk.
He caused the blind to see and
even raised the dead.

His miracles were
many. He was free of sin.
A pure, untouched lamb.

Pilate washed his hands.
He let the people decide.
They wanted his death.

He was crucified
on the cross at Calvary.
Did GOD forsake him?

He was not cast out
or forsaken by GOD, but
was resurrected.

For two full days he
was entombed, but on the third
day, he lived again.

He ascended back
to Heaven. Mission complete.
He died for our sins.
