The Cream Will Keep Rising to the Top

25 Nov

One of the great things to come out of Superstorm Sandy was it really showed me who my true friends and loving family members are.

No one owes may anything. I do not have an entitlement mentality and have not and will not feel sorry for myself or my situation.

It is just interesting how adversity shows you people’s true colors.

The fallout to Superstorm Sandy has indeed been a blessing because I have a better idea of who is who in my life.

In this triple rhyme poem, song titles are hyperlinked to their respective audio files on GrooveShark.com and YouTube.com.

Enjoy, and figure out is is your friend and who is your frenemy.

“A friend in need is a friend indeed” is an old saying.

There is some fire to spit around this topic and I’m not playing.

Superstorm Sandy let me know which friendships are immortal and which were sick and decaying.

I generally don’t ask family or friends for favors because I believe in doing for self.

When you work hard for what you got you don’t want other able-bodied people siphoning your wealth.

Allowing such behavior can be bad for your financial health.

Those that know me know that I am far from being Minnie the Moocher or Begging Billy.

If someone were to say otherwise you would have to hit them with a “Really?”

They’ll be fronting while their lips are moving like Milli Vanilli.

It is funny how you can always be there for others and remember every milestone in their life.

Their children’s birthday, their favorite food and the anniversary of getting married to their husband or wife.

When you are not even called or asked about feels like you were stabbed in the heart with a sharp knife.

“I’ve been Thinking of You. Have you been thinking about me?” is a question that Tony! Toni! TonĂ© decided to pose.

If you answer ‘yes,’ you’re a liar and your nose will grow like Pinnochio’s.

You get caught up in your lies and fronting and are all over the place like Any Way the Wind Blows.

Friends, how many of us have them?” is a question we all should ask.

Your friend could be Frenemy and if you are not careful they could take you to task.

Then you’ll be listening to sad songs while you cry and sip whiskey from a flask.

I’m also disappointed at companies that say they take care of their people – Ha! What a gaff!

Like Craig G and Marley Marl said, Don’t Make Me Laugh.”

Your words and actions didn’t add up like it was bad math.

When the power was out we had to get a generator that was powered by gas or diesel.

When you’re down and out, Pop goes the Weasel!

Their bullshit is a piece of work that should be framed and displayed on an easel.

Heaven help you when you are in your next jam and you feel all alone.

Don’t listen to Erykah! You better not call Tyrone!

Get busy because you’re All Alone.

I got knocked down but can’t stop won’t stop will not stop!

I can never sink to the bottom because if I was 5-0 I would be top cop.

You can’t hold me down because the cream will Keep Rising to the Top.

AWFUL People Suck!

21 Nov

This haiku chain was inspired by a Facebook conversation where me and my brother, Travis, were clowning Internet tough guys who talk a lot of smack on social media.

As is my custom, song titles are hyper-linked to their respective audio file on GrooveShark.com.

Attention whoring
is what you do best. Always
posting your new pics

or talking about
how you did this or that or
a beef made public

on Facebook or on
Twitter. She Don’t Have To Know
and most do not care.

It is straight foolish
to air your dirty laundry
in front of the world.

Talk to the other
person privately offline
about your concerns.

Your talking tough and
going public can earn you
a good ass kicking.

Plus it shows how much
of a coward you are for
not going to them.

Once the die are cast
it is useless to try to
reel them back – too late.

As a matter of
fact, you will be a big, ‘ol
loser. Snake eyes, friend.

Just in case you have
not noticed, the word ‘awful’
is an acronymn.

‘A’ & ‘W’
is for Attention Whoring.
Some gotta have it

by any and all
means necessary. Be it
good or bad. Who cares?

‘F’ is for Foolish.
Only fools think that Facebook
friends are your true friends.

‘U’ represents how
Useless your life becomes by
living as a fake.

A phony. A fraud.
‘L’ is for being such a
Loser. A big one.

That is how you get
the word awful. Yuck!
AWFUL people suck!

Sandy, you wiped me out

13 Nov

This is a 10-part triple rhyme poem that I wrote in reference to the infamous Hurricane Sandy.

This storm displaced me and my family from our home.

I hyperlinked song titles to their respective audio files on GrooveShark.com.

Things could have been worse for me. Make sure that if you’re a homeowner, you have flood insurance. If you’re a renter, get renter’s insurance.

Let me know what you think about this poem.

Thank you.

‘S’ is for the shock I felt when I first learned how furious your wrath was and how my home may have been immersed by the surge.

‘A’ is for the anxiety I felt while I went to check on my apartment and what I saw almost caused my bowels to purge.

‘N’ is for the nausea that overcame me when I smelled the foul stench of rotting food and salt water-drenched furniture made and it put me on the verge.

The verge of throwing up and crying.

My heart sank and I felt like I was dying.

Some say, “Keep your head-up,” but when you’re going through something like this yourself, it isn’t what you’re interested in buying.

‘D’ is for the depression that started to set into my mind because I felt like I was in Hell.

‘Y’ is for the loud scream I let out as it was a painful, frightful yell.

These are lyrics to a sad song that I propel.

It is a sad thing when your life is drenched and placed on the sidewalk for the whole world to see.

This was something that has happened to other people but I never thought it would happen to me.

It is a humbling experience and will put the proudest person on bended knee.

The goddess, Yansan, is the orisha of winds, hurricanes and tempests all of which are devastating and can cause you bumps, bruises and dings.

Don’t attach yourself to material items and fickle concerns because they are at best fleeting things.

Flood waters can make a pauper out of queens and out of kings.

Even though I lost virtually everything I still have my health.

My extended family opened their arms and embraced me to let me know that I’m not by myself.

Some close friends have also said to me, “Brother, you know we be like Monopoly, because if I got it, you got it because we always have shared the wealth.”

When you’re going through something you really get to know who your friends are.

Words are just words but your actions is what takes you far.

Do the right thing by remembering that “a friend in need is a friend indeed” and it can make you shine like a star.

Going from “classy to ashy” in the course of a few hours.

We must remember to never fool with Mother Nature because of her awesome powers.

Your world can come Tumblin Down like the twin towers.

The Sensational Nightingales sang It’s Gonna Rain, but I didn’t think it would affect me.

I thought I would be spared in my little cozy home by the sea.

I just couldn’t imagine that I would be a casualty of the greatest flood in NYC’s history.

You can have it all today with a lot material wealth, fame and clout.

Anything can happen to me or you and in this I have no doubt.

I know this first-hand because Sandy, you wiped me out.

Four More Years

7 Nov

This is a Triple Rhyme Poem. I felt compelled to write something because of the re-election of President Barrack Obama. I hope that you enjoy it and see some value in my commentary.

President Obama was re-elected for another term.

Will it be a smooth road ahead or will he hit a berm?

Will the country’s economy get healthier or will it become sicker with a new, super germ?

He is not a savior but I’d say the lesser of two evils.

Our military industrial complex of a country feeds on the resources of other lands like a horde of hungry boll weevils.

The power behind the power is not satisfied until the intended target kneels.

Perhaps we can fix things up at home that then repair our reputation abroad?

Who knows whether or not our revolutionary roots will act as a lighting rod.

By mobilizing “We the People” who are created equal in the eyes of God.

The U.S. Congress and the President should be forced to play nice in the sandbox.

We should keep them in the Capitol Building and fasten the locks.

If this were a different age we’d surround them with a moat filled with crocs.

You start a fire under the pot to get the water in it to boil.

Before a snake strikes it tends to coil.

Freedom isn’t free so we have to labor and toil.

Charity and agitation should start in the neighborhoods where you live.

Local politicians are to be reminded that they are public servants who are not there to take but to give.

If they are not responding to your outcry you have to question their motive.

Local, state then the feds is the hierarchy in which your concerns should flow.

Don’t let elected officials sit on their asses so spur them and make them get up and go.

If they don’t honor your requests, vote the bums out and send them down river with no paddle and tell them to row.

Also remember that you have to do for self.

Don’t wait for a benevolent government to give you a handout so go out and build your wealth.

Otherwise your rights will be stripped away and you won’t notice because it will be done using stealth.

Join a civic and/or a faith-based organization in your neighborhood.

It should be concerned with the upliftment, safety and the area’s greater good.

We always had our best results when we could say in the face of adversity “United we stood.”

All we ever had and all we will ever had is us.

Our individualistic and entitlement behavior is why we get left in the dust.

Growing up and giving back to your community is a must.

Should I have Tears of Joy where I laugh or Shout and scream because they are tears for fears?

Should I drown my sorrows by getting drunk alone or have a party where we tap glasses and say “cheers?”

Whatever the case may be we certainly cannot maintain the status quo for four more years.
